Verse 20 – 21: When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of righteousness. 21 What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? Those things result in death!

Before salvation, you were not serving Christ, righteousness or any Holy thing…. Just your own sinful nature.

And what did you gain?

In King James, it uses says, “What fruit had ye…”  We produce fruit one way or another.  Good fruit we can be joyful about or bad fruit we can be ashamed of.

Now, when you drop into sin, does it break your heart? The difference between a child of God and child of the Devil is that a child of the God gets a broken achy breaky heart from sinning.

Avoid the achy breaky heart!  Yours and Gods!

Sometimes we get so use to a sin, it does not break our heart, but it still does for God.

Verse 22: But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life.

King James says “you have your fruit unto holiness…”

Here is the cure for the achy breaky heart!… you are free from sin!

You are not a slave to it!

You are a slave to the HOLY ONE!

You can produce fruit which will abide into eternity!

You can have a glad heart, a joyful heart, a heart that sees fruit produced! If you Avoid the achy breaky heart!

Verse 23: For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The Devil is a paymaster, and he will see to that you get paid. If you work for him, the wages of sin death!

But if by faith, you have made God Almighty your Master, and you have become a slave to him, then the wages for your faith is eternal life!

You are saved by faith!

You are to live by faith!

You are to walk moment by moment by faith.

You cannot live for God by yourself any more than you can save yourself.  It requires constant dependence upon Him, looking to the Lord Jesus Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit!

How do you Avoid the achy breaky heart!    Yours and Gods?

By living by faith, moment to moment.

By ingraining your life with His word so that when sin is crouching at your door (or under your bed) and ready to devour you, you can remember who you are a slave to, who is your Master.
