Meet Gypsy.

Just so you know, I am not a fanatic about animals. tell people all the time that she is just a dog. But she is a very sweet dog, with a sweet personality and she loves me very much!  No doubt about it.

So I was thinking about her one day. I was intrigued by the way she loves me and how I know it. No doubt. She does. It’s a fact. She lives a life that revolves around me.  And I had this thought, “It is like I am God to her”.  Hmmmm….. I am not God!  But she does act toward me like I ought to act toward God!  Please let me tell you how I see it;

  • Gypsy watches me all the time.  She follows me if I move.  She is my shadow. If I stand up, she does.  If I lay down, she does.  If I sit, she sits.  If I run, she runs.
    • John 5:19 : “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does.
      • Now if I am to imitate Christ like I believe I should, then I must do what He did.  I must watch and see where God is moving and that is where I should be moving, too!
        • How do I know?  First I have to know God well enough to know it is Him. I have to be in the Word and I have to listen to the Holy Spirit enough to know it is God’s way and not something I just made up. Or something made to look good, but is misleading.  We have to know God well enough to recognize His approval.
        • Gypsy knows when I am happy with what she is doing. She knows a smile from me means I am pleased.  I can just look at her and smile and she smiles back with her tail!  If I help someone in need, without an alterior selfish motive, then I know from God’s Word that He is pleased with me.
  • Gypsy is excited to see me!  I can be gone 10 minutes or 3 days and she acts the same way when I walk in the door, thrilled!
    • Now we have to ask ourselves, are we thrilled to see God?  How do we see God?  For me I see Him in His Word!  I see Him when He performs miracles! I see Him when He shows Himself to me and others through the movement of the Holy Spirit!
      • Now for me to see Him, I have to make some effort.  I have to meet Him at the door (John 10:7-10 Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep. All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them.I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.) like Gypsy meets me!  I have to be willing to spend my time and energy on this.  I have to make time to sit with Him reading His word.  I have to make time to worship Him, to sing to Him, to talk to Him. And if I love Him like Gypsy loves me, I will be THRILLED to do these things!
  • Gypsy wants me happy!  She wants to do whatever I want her to do.  Sometimes the silly puppy will start performing all the tricks she knows just trying to guess which one I want her to do.  When she does this, I have to tell her to stop and wait for a command. She stops. She wants to obey me. She knows that makes me happy!
    • John 14:.21 Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him.”
    • We need to be about obeying Him.  It is what we want to do if we love Him.
    • But lets not be like my puppy and just go from thing to thing trying to figure out what it is He wants us to do.  Lets listen for His command.  The Holy Spirit in you (If you are a child of God) will speak to you. The Bible will speak to you. Sometimes God even sends people and circumstances to speak to you.
In the mean time let’s do what God has already told us to do. (1 Timothy 6:11-12 Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness. Fight the good fight of faith.)
  • Gypsy does her very best for me all the time. She does not give half efforts. She does not tell me no. She gives me her best with the very best attitude possible. She is happy to!
    • 2 Corinthians 9:7 Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
      • If we tithe, tithe cheerfully!  If we help others, help cheerfully! I we give up something for God, give it up cheerfully!  We should do our best for Him with a happy heart and a smile on our face!
  • Gypsy loves everybody I love. If you are a total stranger to her, but I bring you into my home, she is going to love you, and you are going to know it!
    • 1 John 4:7-8 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.
    • John 13:34-35 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
    • 1 Peter 4:8 Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.
    • 1 John 3:16 By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.
    • 1 John 3:15-16 Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.
    • Matthew 7:1-29 “Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye. …
    • Colossians 3:12-15 Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.
    • Hebrews 13:1 Let brotherly love continue.
      • Enough said, we should love others!
  • Gypsy never wants to be apart from me. She never hides anything from me. She sleeps near me, stays with me and is an open book for me to read. She loves being anywhere with me. Normally, if I am trying to get her to go out in the rain, she won’t go. But If I go out, even in a storm with lighting and thunder (which she hates), she will go with me. Because she would rather be with me in the storm than alone inside.
    • John 15:5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”
  • I pray I can love the Lord in a way that is pleasing to Him!  I pray I glorify Him in all I do!  And I pray He forgives me for the million times I have failed!

Another prayer is that this little lesson will help someone realize that we are created for a purpose and we are happiest when we are going about fulfilling that purpose!

Ephesians 2:10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

1 Peter 2:9But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.
